Painted Dragons are an Agama species occurring throughout many areas of the Eastern side of the Mediterranean. They are a fast moving, heat loving species of lizard which spends most of 
the daylight hours in the summer months basking in very temperatures. They are commonly found living around the vertical walls of old castles and similar buildings, drystone walls and cliff faces. They move so fast they are difficult to get close to, especially with the type of terrain they live.
In captivity the above factors must be taken into account and catered for. The will require a relatively large, tall vivarium of around (minimum) two to three feet tall and around four to six feet long. The high basking temperatures of around 34-36C can only be safely achieved in larger vivariums to 
give a cooler area to allow thermoregulation. Heating must be overhead, choices include ceramic heaters, halogen and incandescent (various keepers have various preferences) and a high output T5 UVB must be used – 12-14{cb5d0a8cf0c44aef2db327d9ab0dba08dd09aed1126b509e5fa01d3aaa87fe47} is suggested. The T5 will provide a high level of luminance, much brighter than any halogen or incandescent (these bulbs have an equivalent luminance of shade in wild conditions). Plenty of hides and climbing décor – ideally a wall type background on the rear of the vivarium is essential. Don’t forget a small water bowl.
Food is in the form of insects, and a wide range of commercially available livefood should be used. Remember they will require a mixed, varied diet; so please offer all the various livefoods available. They are greedy feeders. A good quality reptile vitamin and mineral supplement must be frequently used.
